Shimano ZEE BR-M640 disc brake set – a must for freeriders

The Shimano ZEE disc brake set BR-M640 (front + rear) bites hard even on demanding terrain. It has two 4-ceramic piston brake calipers designed according to Ice-Tech technology for optimum heat dissipation. Thanks to One Way Bleeding they can also be bled easily and without any problems. The BL-M640-B brake levers use the Servo Wave design, which makes optimum use of the lever travel. The cockpit can also be tidied up using I-Spec – the option of integrating shifters and brake levers.

Technology:

Servo Wave
When you pull a Servo Wave brake lever, initial pad travel is fast, so little lever movement is needed to bring the pads into contact with the rotor. The power multiplication factor then increases rapidly at the pad-to-rim contact so more of the lever stroke is used to apply greater braking power with improved control.

I-Spec
Integration mounting system of shifter and brake lever. It can realise clean appearance, more space for the handle bar area and lightweight.
Note: The I-Spec brake levers have a new mount as of 2014 (Version B). First of all, there is no compatibility with shifter with old I-Spec mounts. However, these can be made compatible with the new I-Spec brake levers using the new I-Spec adapters (SM-SL98-B for XTR, SM-SL78-B for XT and SLX, SM-SL82-B for Saint). There is no compatibility with I-Spec II or I-Spec EV.

One-Way-Bleeding
One-Way-Bleeding was developed for quick and easy prevention of air in Shimano’s hydraulic system. They have streamlined the oil route throughout the system to prevent air bubbles from being captured in the system.
One way oil routing plus a funnel tool with mineral oil provides an easy and clean bleeding system.

Ice-Tech
Brake fading during prolonged uninterrupted operation, e.g. downhill, impairs braking performance. Shimano has introduced brake discs and pads with Ice-Tech technology to create a cooling technology for consistently high braking performance. The brake rotor has a three-layer stainless steel sandwich structure on the outside around an aluminium core. It radiates heat better and reduces a surface temperature from 400° C to 300° C, for example. The brake pads also have optional cooling fins. The design of the rotor in combination with the cooling fins results in a longer service life of the pads, less braking noise, less fading and a lower weight.
XTR, Saint, Deore XT, SLX, Zee, Deore LX calipers are bundled with Ice Technology pistons in order to achieve optimized lightweight, high rigidity and heat dissipation. Oversized pistons transfer hydraulic power directly to the brake pad, and ceramic material is used to avoid heat transfer for constant stable braking, providing efficient stopping power transfer without loss.
